Planning to Book a Live Violinist? Here's What You Need to Know

ree

There’s something truly special about live music. It doesn’t just fill a room—it transforms it. Whether you’re planning a wedding, anniversary, private dinner, or special event, booking a live musician like a solo violinist can add elegance, emotion, and unforgettable atmosphere to your day.

As a professional violinist specialising in weddings and celebrations across the South West, I want to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Here are my top tips and considerations to help you plan with confidence.

1. Know the Mood You Want to Create

Every event has a feeling. Is yours romantic and elegant? Relaxed and joyful? Classic with a twist? Think about how you want your guests to feel during each part of the day, and how music can help shape that mood.

This helps me tailor my performance to suit your style perfectly—whether that’s soft classical melodies for a ceremony, modern love songs over dinner, or a bespoke playlist for your garden party.

2. Choose the Right Setting

Your venue sets the scene, and it’s helpful to know what kind of space we’ll be working with. I’ve performed everywhere from outdoor woodlands to candlelit barns and elegant city halls, so I’m used to adapting.

Check whether the space has:

  • Shelter or cover (especially for outdoor bookings)

  • Good access and a place for me to set up

  • Permission for live music (some venues have specific guidelines)

3. Share Your Budget Early

Booking a live soloist doesn’t have to be a luxury beyond reach. I offer flexible packages and will always work with you to make the most of your budget. Whether you're looking for an hour of ceremony music or full-day coverage, it helps to have a ballpark figure so I can guide you to the best option.

4. Curate a Personal Playlist

One of my favourite parts of the process is helping couples and clients choose music that feels like them. I offer a repertoire of classical favourites, romantic ballads, and contemporary hits—all arranged beautifully for solo violin.

You can:

  • Select from my existing playlist

  • Make special requests

  • Mix genres to create your own musical journey

5. Plan for Practicalities

To make your day seamless, I’ll arrive in good time to set up quietly and liaise with your coordinator or venue. It’s helpful if I know:

  • The event timeline

  • Where to set up

  • What to wear (I'm happy to coordinate with your dress code or colour scheme!)

6. Ask Questions and Stay in Touch

From your first enquiry to the final note, I’m here to support you. Want to check whether I can play a particular piece? Need help deciding when music works best during your timeline? Just ask!

Clear, warm communication is one of my top priorities—and it helps ensure the music flows as beautifully as the day itself.

7. Be Ready to Let Go and Enjoy

On the day itself, your only job is to be present. Trust that your music is in safe hands. Whether I’m serenading guests as they arrive, playing you down the aisle, or providing the soundtrack to your first champagne toast—you can relax and soak up the moment.

Live music adds more than sound. It adds soul, connection, and a sense of occasion.

If you're dreaming of music that moves you—with no stress or overwhelm in the planning—I'd love to help bring your vision to life.

Warmest wishes,

Laura
